Spring cleaning isn’t just a tradition — it’s the one time of year when you reset every room and address the things that get overlooked during regular maintenance. Here’s how we approach it professionally.
Before You Start
Gather your supplies first:
- Microfiber cloths (at least 10)
- All-purpose cleaner
- Glass cleaner
- Degreaser
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- Mop and bucket
- Vacuum with attachments
Work room by room, top to bottom, inside to outside.
Living Room
- Ceiling and walls: Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures, and corners for cobwebs. Wipe down wall smudges.
- Windows: Clean glass inside and out. Wash curtains or vacuum drapes.
- Furniture: Move pieces to clean underneath. Vacuum upholstery and flip cushions.
- Electronics: Dust TV screens with a dry microfiber. Clean behind entertainment centers.
- Baseboards: Wipe down with a damp cloth — these collect more dust than people realize.
Kitchen
See our detailed Kitchen Deep Clean Checklist for this one. Spring is the ideal time for that full treatment.
Extra spring tasks:
- Clean inside pantry cabinets and discard expired items
- Descale the coffee maker
- Clean the garbage disposal with ice cubes and salt, then flush with lemon
Bedrooms
- Mattress: Vacuum the surface, flip or rotate it, and sprinkle baking soda to deodorize. Leave for an hour, then vacuum again.
- Pillows and bedding: Wash all pillowcases, sheets, duvet covers, and if possible the pillows themselves.
- Closets: This is a great time to go through clothes — donate what you haven’t worn in a year.
- Under the bed: Vacuum dust bunnies and any stored items.
- Windows and blinds: Wipe down blinds slat by slat with a damp cloth.
Bathrooms
- Deep clean the grout with a grout brush and a baking soda paste.
- Replace the shower curtain liner.
- Descale the showerhead by soaking it in white vinegar for an hour.
- Wipe down light switches, outlet covers, and door handles.
- Check and replace any caulk that’s cracked or discolored.
Laundry Room
- Run the washing machine empty on hot with 2 cups of white vinegar to clean the drum.
- Clean the dryer lint trap and use a long brush to clean the dryer vent duct — this is a fire hazard if ignored.
- Wipe down the exterior of both appliances.
Garage / Entryway
- Sweep and mop the floor.
- Wipe down the door and door frame.
- Organize stored items — discard what you don’t need.
